Under One Month!

22 04 2008

We are just under a month away and wedding plans, parties, shopping, etc. are in full swing! I think we are on the final list of items we need to get and/or create for the wedding and slowly but surely we are working our way through it. We are very excited for people to come and share this day with us and can’t wait to see you all.

Marriage License

2 04 2008

Karen and I got our marriage license from McLean county today. The county clerk’s office is a sharp outfit. In fact they have posted this for us (you might need to scroll down). Beyond that, today we planned more with the Double Tree. Stephanie is the wedding specialist at the Double Tree, and she is a problem solver. It is good she is working for us. She just makes problems go away. We also ordered our wedding bands (rings, not music).

And with that I add this poem:

Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

Registering…oh the fun!

11 02 2008

My future husband is so amazing! Over the last two days, we have spent the approximately 10-12 hours in multiple stores shopping…yes, I said Marcus, 12 hours, & shopping in the same post! And he has truly been wonderful!

Yesterday, while I was struggling with nausea and a headache (which got worse the more we looked at), Marc was patient, enduring, and endearing. We went to multiple stores in order to see different colors, patterns, materials. Finally beginning to register later in the day, which involved sitting at a computer picking patterns of formal flatware (which is basically all we got done in an hour to 2 hours) at that store. No getting to use the fun scanning guns, but not bad for our first foray!

Then this morning, at 10am armed with coffee we went back and began the fun of registering for everything else. It was really amazing to realize how many items go into every room of the home! We had fun registering for things for the kitchen and living rooms in the morning. Taking a short break for lunch and then returning for a few more hours of choices. In the afternoon we made decisions on bedding, bath, and random odds and ends that we didn’t take care of in the morning. Despite the time involved we had quite a bit of fun registering for items that we will need and a few things that would just bring a smile to our face to own!

We definitely still have more registering to do, but we are on are way! If you are interested in seeing where we are registered check out the registry tab.

Attire (The Ladies!)

6 02 2008

After going to two David’s Bridal stores three times total and couple of bridal stores that I won’t mention, I finally found the dress that I love! I can go as far as to tell you it is all white, but that’s all you get! You know the rules!

The ladies who are going to be standing up with me will be wearing black & white dress of their choice, a way to ensure that they are all comfortable, uniform and stunning!

The moms have the option of wearing black & white, all black or any shade of gray! I know both have been looking and can’t wait to see what each of them decides on. I know they will both be beautiful!

Attire (Men)

5 02 2008

So Karen and I decided to not go with tuxes for the groomsmen, rather we are going with the new trend of having the guys buy suits for just a bit more than a tuxedo costs to rent. We will probably buy them the shirts and ties, as our gift to them. But this way we will all have nice matching suits.

Karen found some pinstriped suits at S&K Menswear. I still need to check them out and give them the nod.

Also Karen is going to procure a location for us this week. Then we will have a date, and we can invite people. And everything else can move forward.

The Story of Us

30 01 2008

If you are interested in hearing the story of Marc and Karen, check out the Our Story tab. And look for details about the wedding (as they are finalized) under the About tab. I am sure more pages will also be coming, in fact let us know if there is something you think we should include on a separate tab! We love you all.

Something interesting, something blue…

30 01 2008

Okay so the other day, Friday to be exact. I spent approximately five hours – doing what you ask – shopping – for what you ask – groom/groomsmen/men of wedding attire!

It is amazing what I learned over those five hours, but I will not bore you with it all, mainly I want to digress on one topic (something interesting) and one story (something blue).

First the topic – it seems to me that there is a wide chasm when it comes to men’s formal wear. There are the $100-$300 with the median being about $200 to $250 suits that are from stores like bachrach, macy, vonmaur, etc (trust me on this etc there are lots of places that sell men’s suits – this is a short list and I live in Bloomington-Normal IL), then there are the $650-name your price suits with the median seeming to be $700-$850 – which of course are tailored to fit and again these suits can be found at some of the same stores listed above.

But doesn’t it seem a pretty big chasm of cost between the two different price levels! I would love to hear from others on what your thoughts are on this and from here I digress to my story. Sit back and grab some cheese cause I’m providing the “whine”

At one of department stores that I went to, which I have not named in this post because I do not feel the need to help promote them and will not mention at this juncture because I would probably be doing it for bad reasons, at least five salesclerks were within a yard of me as I browsed men’s ware for over a half and hour (why did I stay so long – well I really wanted to see if they had something I wanted, which I was looking for – and after awhile I really just hoped one of them would redeem the rest with good customer service so I looked a little more perplexed and in need of help as time went on), however not a single one engaged me!!!

Granted I was in jeans and a sweatshirt with my hair pulled up (I had other things going on that day before shopping that this attire was appropriate for), but still shouldn’t someone have approached me. This would probably have done in most shoppers, but me being a glutton for punishment, on my own found something I was looking for but not enough of them…

…so from the counter where the item was I spoke to a salesclerk and aisle over who was prettifying a display and asked if more could be found. This clerk did not come and look at what I wanted, instead ask me to describe the item and then proceeded to tell me it was in another of the men’s sections. Being a sport I went to look where she directed again encountering some of the clerks who had previously ignored me and came up short of finding the items. Thinking it better to go back to the source I returned to the first clerk and again asked for help. This time the clerk walked me over with an almost “fine if I have to hold your hand” attitude and found that the item wasn’t there. This clerk then asked another clerk who said the items had been pulled from their section floor earlier that day and that the new location was unknown. Both clerks then proceeded to go about their day without offering any further help.

Many thoughts ran through my head, should I ask for a manager (not likely to help as earlier I had noticed that one of the five was a manger or team leader or something), should I call later and ask for the store manager, should I approach the clerks themselves, what would I say to any of them, should I inform all who are part of the wedding that this store is banned…in the end I did nothing, save tell a couple of friends and cry.

Here’s the Black and White of It…

30 01 2008

…speaking of the wedding of course. As Marc mentioned currently the site is being worked out, thus also the date.

However, things that we do know include:

  • I, currently Karen S. Hamilton will be the bride;
  • Marc, currently not in town, will be the groom;
  • Ed and Jenny Wilcoski are doing (what they are graciously calling for our benefit) pre marriage discussions with us;
  • Ed will be officiating our ceremony;
  • Parents of the aforementioned bride and groom will be in attendance as will siblings (we love you!);
  • The colors for the wedding will be black and white (important note everyone will be in black, black & white, or shades of gray – only the bride and the groom, if he chooses, can wear all white!);
  • Annalea Hart is making & decorating the display cake (and has already sent me ideas and pictures – I am really excited).

Those are some of the details, other details are that we have figured out who we are asking to stand up with us, but since we haven’t talked to all of them that can’t be posted. Also, we have a tentative time of day, but since it isn’t finalized that will have to wait too.

These are the details as I, being of sound mind and at times laughable judgment, attest to.

Waiting and other notes

29 01 2008

Karen and I would love to invite you to our wedding. Or to even tell you when so you don’t plan anything else that day. But we are held up now by some facilities issues. So be it.

In happier news. For twelve hours we changed our facebook status to ‘married’, just to see what people would say. People did say things, to Karen. Seven people sent her notes congratulating her and hinting at disbelief. Nobody said a word to me. I would like to think that my friends are not internet addicted losers, but I know better.
